Specialized education in engineering with environmental symbiosis as ideology
The Faculty of Engineering underwent a major change in April 2006. This was to realize the shift in emphasis from eciency and productivity to one that focused on consideration for the future 21st century society with its progressive depletion of natural resources and environmental changes. In other words, it looked to offer" technology that took into consideration the problems facing mankind, the environment, and resources."
At the ten departments within the Faculty, the ideology to turn out practical, environmental-symbiosis-minded engineers was adopted when it was selected as Current Good Practice (Support Program of Current Educational Needs), an educational program under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
Besides courses that are directly relevant to the environment such as Departments of Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering and Urban Design, and Applied Chemistry, various other attractive educational programs that respond to the needs of a 21st century society that concerns itself with environmental symbiosis are being oered. These include programs on energy-saving linear motors and new electrical generation systems; new-type nanotechnology transistor IC (electrical/electronic); environmentally friendly, lightweight vehicles (machines) using new alloys; and robots modeled after humans (Department of Biomedical Engineering and others).
