OIT held its 2nd International Workshop on September 15, 2012.

This International Workshop, entitled Front Research and Technology in Structural Engineering, was organized by the Structure Research Center (SRC). The aim of this workshop was to afford opportunities for researchers and engineers to exchange knowledge and discuss issues regarding recent research developments and technologies in structural engineering. Another important goal was to deepen the friendships among the participants and the guest presenters from our partner universities in Germany and Poland.

The invited presenters are pioneers in the structural engineering research field. One guest presenter, Gerhard Hanswille from the University of Wuppertal, presented on the following topic: “Eurocode4: Composite Structures of Steel and Concrete.” In his presentation Prof. Hanwille discussed the development and introduction of Eurocode 4 in Germany in 2012. In addition he also explained about the design philosophy of Eurocode 4 for composite structures of steel and concrete. Basic assumptions and design rules were given regarding the German National Annex.

In addition to the guest presenters, professors from OIT also gave presentations in English regarding their own recent research. Graduate students researching structural engineering gave presentations on their research in English as well.
The participants came from several foreign countries, including Austria, Germany, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Engineers from Japanese construction companies participated in order to learn the latest research.

After the International Workshop, the presenters and participants discussed about research and were able to deepen their friendships with each other.
OIT is planning to hold its 3rd International Workshop in November 2013. The theme will be about robotics technology.
