Our laboratory aims to develop technologies for treating and recycling various wastes, to help build a society that can coexist with, and use, waste-based recycled materials. This involves the technical development of improved or novel waste treatment and recycling methods, as well as scientific verification concerning waste and recycled materials in society.

The main research activities of this research laboratory pertain to fieldwork, namely, dry and wet deposition, mountain streams, rivers, and coastal seas. The changes in water quality and runoff characteristics due to water cycles in watersheds are studied. This forms a basis for understanding the current condition of water environments, informs the evaluation of natural and anthropogenic impact, and clarifies promising steps to preserve water environments.

The biosphere is where living creatures exist, all ecosystems on the planet. From the standpoint of meteorology, we study desertification, heat-islands, and water resource management, to better understand how human activities affect, and depend on, a variety of ecosystems.

Our research seeks to develop management methodologies to control the waste of precious materials, so that high quality environments that are in harmony with regional natural and social conditions can be sustained.

Our research field covers water quality conversion and control technologies that are comprehensively applied to water supplies as well as sewage treatment. The aim is to optimize water metabolism from the point of view of quality and quantity, so that both human health and an ecological healthy water environment are achieved and sustained.

We focus on the potential of biological resources and systems for resolving a range of environmental problems, such as global warming, depletion of fossil fuel, and loss of biodiversity. This involves the search for novel genetic resources of oil-producing microalgae as carbon-neutral biofuel feedstocks and the study of their optimal culture conditions.

Our research fields, high efficiency electric energy storage devices or low emission generating systems will be surely promising countermeasures to the situation.
