Memories of research work and campus life at OIT

My experience at OIT was greatly positive. In a multitude of well-equipped labs, the experts of natural science can tackle fundamental problems of technology.

Within a broad scope of interests of the Nanomaterials Microdevices Research Center, which I was part of, are ZnO-based biosensors, flexible transparent transistors, quantum dot emitters and, my personal favorite, THz frequency light sources - this being a topic of great interest within the scientific community. Therefore my activity at OIT was devoted to the development of robust sources of THz radiation of ever higher intensities. The obtained results were very good, yet leaving room for improvement which will be a great challenge for anyone interested in carrying on this research.

A nurturing environment and extremely helpful and friendly staff helped me make some important life choices, and strengthened my devotion towards science. Such encouragement was much more than I ever hoped for.

Apart from the research work, getting to know the beauty and richness of Japanese culture was a treat, with Osaka city as a starting point for the exploration of the Kansai area and beyond. Due to my rather restrained and somewhat introverted character I did not expect to experience more than museums and architectural monuments of Japan. But thanks to the benevolence and openness of its people, who were eager to approach a stranger for conversation on the street, I could get the whole package of enjoyment. Despite obvious language limitations on both ends, curiosity prevailed and gave me truly human experience. And that is what truly matters.
