『諸国名橋奇覧 摂州天満橋』
明治43年刊の「北野誌」によると菅原道真公を祭神にした天満神社の総数は1万89社と記録されており、北は北海道から南は鹿児島にまで広く点在している。大阪天満宮の祭礼は7月25日。
江戸の山王祭、京の祇園祭とともに日本三大祭とされている。経済地盤沈下の大阪を祭でぶっ飛ばそうと浪花っ子の力の入れようは大変で、宵宮と川渡御(かわとぎょ)の人出は百万人を突破している。堂島川を流しているのは住之江からさかのぼってきた“ドンドコ船”。祭景気をふりあげるのになくてはならない存在。今は一隻しかのぼってこないが、その昔は7隻も参加していたそうだ。投げ頭布に紙幣、扇子をふるうのは采頭。画面いっぱいに曲線を描いて渡された天満橋。その橋げたの間から見える両岸の町屋。構図は北斎お手の物だ。
Famous Bridge Series: Sesshu -Tenma Bridge
According to the “Kitano Journal” published in 1910, there were 10,089 shrines dedicated to Michizane Sugawara. They were scattered all over the country from Kagoshima in the south to Hokkaido up in the north. ghtening the festive mood. All over the picture is drawn a curve depicting the Temman Bridge, between whose girders is seen tradesman’s houses on both sides of the river. This is typical of the composition of Hokusai’s paintings.
