The Hozu River is called the Oi River as it reaches Arashiyama, popularly called TRanzan where Imperial family members in the Heian Period used to indulge in poetry and music. The river, passing under the Togetsu Bridge, flows through the Katsu
ra Village into the Yodo River. While road traffic is now a common means of transportation, rafts on the Hozu River used t
o carry logs needed for the construction of the Heian Shrine, the Tenryuji Temple and Osaka and Fushimi castles. Quite rec
ently, raft is regaining its popularity as a tourist attraction. The cherry trees at Arashiyama were transplanted from Yos
hino.Kyotoites cross this Tegetsu Bridge to visit the temples, which, located between the hills, appear to be the Buddha.
