On Monday, April 1, 2024, Dr. ANIJO MATHEW, dean and professor of the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) visited the Umeda Campus to give a lecture titled “From Learners to Leaders: Where Must Design Go Next.”

IIT is a private university founded in 1940 in Chicago. It has been integrated to the present day from a law school established in 1887 and the Institute of Design established in 1937 and other schools.

The lecture was hosted by the Department of Design and Architecture of Faculty of Robotics and Design and was held in the Learning Commons of the Umeda Campus for students of the Faculty.
The lecture included an explanation of design thinking and how it is practiced in business in the U.S., using actual examples to make it easy to understand for students.
In the U.S., design thinking is the source of business models, and many executives have design backgrounds. In addition to the interesting content, the lecture was very meaningful with a lively Q&A session with the students.
